History of the Mother of God icon “Search for the Fallen”

A separate place for the history of the icon and accounts associated with it. The local story is being prepared with a clear distinction between records and oral tradition.

The Mother of God icon “Search for the Fallen” at the Kybliary community

The community supplied this photograph for the section. The icon’s provenance and local traditions still need separate review.

Hope and the intercession of the Mother of God

The icon’s name draws attention to a person in need of help and a renewed path towards hope. In Christian prayer, turning to the Mother of God is joined with trust in Christ, repentance and care for one’s neighbour. For the community, this image is part of its prayer space and identity.

The name in church usage

The Ukrainian form «Взискання загиблих» appears in a Ukrainian-language publication of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Orthodox Church of Ukraine's official calendar also uses «Віднайдення загиблих». These are church names for the icon; the community's registered legal name, «Вишукування загиблих», is retained without alteration.

Local history and tradition

The circumstances in which this particular icon appeared, its transfer to the community and the oral recollections associated with it need agreement with the community's leadership. Once reviewed, documentary accounts and traditions will be presented separately, with their sources clearly identified.
